Importing a Car
The US Customs Service will presently allow the importation
of any motor vehicle 25 years old or older. This replaces the prior rule
that the vehicle had to be the 1967 model year or older. The Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) will require you to submit form 3520-1 (Importation
of Motor Vehicles subject to Federal Air Pollution Regulations) to Customs
upon importation. On this form you will indicate that the motor vehicle
is 21 years old or older and no bond or EPA approval is required. The EPA
Declaration code for this vehicle would be E. The Department of Transportation
(DOT) states that any motor vehicle 25 years old or older is DOT exempt
and can easily be imported
